Group 1's production of Love and Information
This is the recording of the first performance of Love and Information. Due to some issues mentioned earlier in this blog, the cast had to perform the play without the staging that they were promised. Besides some minor hiccups the show went well on a technical base. Most of the lighting was fairly simple besides some technically difficult pieces that I had developed especially for this group. Unfortunately these pieces weren't captured on camera which saddened me as this was a perfect example of my growth in the lighting area. Besides this, the staging (even without the structure) was a step up from previous performances.
Group 2's production of Love and Information
This is the recording of the first performance of Love and Information of Group 2. This was my third time doing the technical aspect of this show as I had already done two shows for Group 1. This group had the privilege to do their dress rehearsal and their shows with the completed staging. This show was slightly more challenging for me in terms of lighting as the director and cast were more ambitious in their ideas. This production also shows my progress in the lighting area as I used the movers quite a bit in different ways.
Both productions of Love and Informations were very different which makes it hard for me to compare them. Even each scene was different as the groups had different concepts for them which made the lighting and sound effects differ as well. Besides this, the order of the scenes wasn't the same either. Both productions had pieces that were challenging, but fun, to light for example: in the first production it was the scene in which I used the movers and gobo's to create a visual representation of things that were stated in the script. For the second production the scenes that come to mind are the ones in which one actor represents a hologram. Besides this, I had fun creating the introduction of one scene which needed to resemble a battlefield.
Compared to the previous shows that I have done I feel like this one was the most complete in terms of lighting, costuming and overall performance.
During the time I have spent on this course I feel like the area that I have improved in the most is lighting. During the last show I used a lot of the moving lights in different ways for example: creating a single spot, multiple spots in different areas of the stage and creating visual representations of things mentioned in the script. This is something that I did not know how to do at the start of the year nor at the midway point. My classmates were very helpful in explaining me how to work the movers and showing me the options that we have available in terms of lighting. By having this guidance I was able to give the director and actors the show that they had in mind.
Besides this I feel like I have grown a lot in the area of stage management. This is something that I have done for almost every show of the year and still thoroughly enjoy. The way that I have improved in this area is that I now know how to convey ideas to the cast and crew as well as being able to call a show clearly. Besides this I now how to communicate with the cast and crew in difficult situations.
Overall I think I have shown quite a lot of growth over the duration of the course and I am exited to extend my knowledge in the second year as I feel like I still have much more to learn.
