Section 1: Review (Approx 100 words)

During my time on this course I have developed my skills by doing projects like being a lighting and sound designer and technician, being a stage manager, competing in a national competition and being a technical director as well. The skill that I will mainly put into practice is my stage management skill. This is still my main area of interest and I would like to develop this even more in my Unit 8. By using the previously mentioned skills I would like to continue on creating successful shows that all involved parties are pleased about.

Section 2: Project Concept (approx 200 words)

My vision for the end of year show Love and Information is to bring the abstract part of the play to life on a budget. For my Unit 8 I want to show my skills in stage management as well as research and create a set design. The set design is something I have not done before but I am very interested in and I think will work well with my tasks of stage manager. With the set I would like to create a space for the actors to play with whilst performing. Due to being stage manager on their previous shows I know that they have not performed on a stage with a lot of set, especially a visually interesting one.
For my stage manager duties I will start by arranging a production meeting with the director to gather information about the play, the script that they will be using and the director's vision for the play. After this I would attend rehearsals to see how the actors interpret the script and to collect ideas from them as well. This will probably lead into another production meeting with the director so we can compare and merge ideas. From there on I would attend more rehearsals so I would be able to start marking my script and give the actors information about the set and lighting plans so they can take this into consideration whilst rehearsing. As soon as the set is done I want to give the actors a chance to rehearse their piece with the set around them so this doesn't lead to last minute re-blocking. If all of this goes according to plan, teching the show should go without any difficulties which would give the actors more time to rehearse with all the technical elements. During the show I will be calling the cues. During the whole process I will use the skills and techniques that I have learned over the year to put together a show that, I hope, everyone will enjoy working on and will be proud of.
For the designing of the set I would start my research by looking up what other theatre companies have previously done for the piece that they are performing and take inspiration from that. After that I would go onto google and/or Pinterest and look at pictures to translate what I have in mind to a visual. If I see that this has worked for other people, I would start with looking at the materials that I would need and comparing different options to each other. After making the decisions about that I would need to get measurements to start resourcing the products that I would need to create my set. From there I would build the set to see how it looks in the space and see if I need to make any adjustments before I let the actors interact with the space. As soon as it's ready to be tested by the actors I would take their ideas and comments as well as my own and see how I could improve it, if necessary, before the actual show. During this whole process I would use the skills that I have learned over the year to create something functional, innovative and that I would be proud of.
The set design that I would like to research is how to create a house-like structure out of pvc pipes. The full idea and research will be presented in my Unit 8 as well as the process and the final outcome.

Section 3: Evaluation (approx 50 words)
|
The way that I will review my work is by watching the recordings of the shows and compare it to my previous work as well as comparing it to other college productions of Love and Information. By doing this I will be able to track my process during the year and how I have improved my skills in multiple areas.
